By borrowing a little closet space we were able to expand this master bathroom to add a Japanese style soaking tub; a separate shower; and an exterior window.
But first, here’s a look at the bathroom as we first found it:
Tucked back in the area that used to be closet space we installed a shower with floor to ceiling large scale wall tiles; a secondary hand held shower mounted on a slide bar; built in niches; and a glass shaving shelf mounted in the corner.
A square casement window was added to let in sunlight, moonlight and fresh air.
Behind the glass privacy panel sits the Japanese style soaking tub …
… with a built in seat, a handheld shower, and a built in step to facilitate safe entry and exit.
The original bathroom layout included an awkwardly placed linen closet.
In place of the linen cabinet the bamboo vanity cabinets and honed quartz counter top were custom designed to continue along the wall and wrap into the inside corner expanding the usable counter top space and adding three roomy drawers for additional storage.
Floating shelves in the same chocolate bamboo as the cabinetry were installed above the cabinet. Pendant lights were added to bring in additional light.
We added a sleek skirted toilet for ease of cleaning.
The original vanities …
The old vanities have been replaced with bamboo cabinetry in a chocolate finish. The new vanities are a taller height for added comfort. The counter tops are done in honed quartz with bright white sinks in a contemporary rectangular shape.
LED lighting installed in the toe kick space beneath the cabinetry creates a soft ambient light perfect for a relaxing soak in the tub. Toe kick lights in either kitchen or bath also serve as excellent night lights.
A pair of towel bars were installed just outside of the shower because everyone needs a place for towels!!

We loved working on this project! From the first time we met and they said, “Japanese soaking tub,” I fell in love!
The Japanese design aesthetic has long been a favorite of mine so needless to say — I was thrilled to be able to design this bathroom!
We spent a good deal of time together discussing the pros and cons of the five different designs I prepared for them. We had so much fun! They were pretty much the perfect customers!!!
Happily, they were thrilled with the results … so we were given the opportunity to remodel a second bathroom in their home!
